OPTICAL FIBER TYPE POLARIZED WAVE SEPARATOR

PURPOSE:To enable long-period stable operation and to eliminate the influence of variation in ambient temperature by bringing a 1st optical fiber polished surface and a 2nd optical fiber polished surface into contact with each other and arranging the reflecting surface of a 1st polarized wave separating element and the reflecting surface of a 2nd polarized wave separating element opposite each other. CONSTITUTION:A 1st optical fiber 11a is equipped with the 1st polarized wave separating element 14a which is inserted and fixed in a 1st groove 13a formed at right angles to the fiber axis and at 45 deg.C to the flank of a 1st substrate 10a and a 2nd optical fiber 11b is equipped with the 2nd polarized wave separating element 14b which is inserted and fixed in a 2nd groove 13b formed similarly to the groove 13a. Here, the polished surface of the 1st optical fiber 11a and the polished surface of the 2nd optical fiber 11b come into contact with each other and the reflecting surface of the 1st polarized wave separating element 14a and the reflecting surface of the 2nd polarized wave separating element 14b face each other. Consequently, no lens is used as an element, so the device is easily manufactured and the long-period stable operation is enabled.
