A method of forming a flat bottom bag (Figure 8) (a) providing a length of flattened, heat sealable tubular material having front and back walls (11,12) united along each longitudinal edge by a gusset (13,14), said length having been heat sealed transversely to provide a bag having a closed bottom (15) and an open mouth; (b) clamping the front and back walls in a central longitudinal region (16) thereof; (c) flaring the gussets (13,14) until portions of the transverse heat seal (5) common to the gussets coincide with the gusset fold lines (13A,14A), and (d) maintaining the fold lines and heat seal portions in juxtaposition while returning the gussets to the non-flared position thus providing a gusset tuck (23) disposed on each corner of said closed bottom. <IMAGE> |
