Each cable phase has an inner layer of stabilised super-conducting material; an electrostatic screen; a dielectric layer; a second electrostatic screen and an outer layer of stabilised super-conducting material, arranged concentrically in a helical line. A superconducting assembly (8) counteracts axial magnetic flux in the cable. The assembly represents a series of closed conductors surrounding the surfaces of the inner and outer layers (3, 7) of superconducting material in the cable phases. The enclosed conductors surrounding the outer super-conducting layer are connected with each other.
