A two-stage separating device for a potato harvesting machine for separating potatoes from stones comprises two endless, transversely inclined separator belts (101 and 201) running side by side and having upstanding flexible fingers (101', 201'). Each belt is brushed transversely by its own endless bristle belt (102 or 202), the latter being offset with respect to the former in the direction of travel of the belts (101 and 201). Stones (109 and 209) lodge between the flexible fingers (101' and 201') and are discharged by the belts (101 and 201) onto a conveyor section (110), whilst potatoes are brushed sideways and roll down over the tops of the fingers onto a conveyor section (112). The fingers (201') of the belt (201) are more closely spaced and less rigid than the fingers (101') so as to handle small potatoes and small stones not separated initially on the belt (101). <IMAGE> |
