Wet-granulating alkali aluminium ion exchanger - with vitreous condensed phosphate addn. to form free-flowing granules

Ion exchanger alkali Al silicate, (I), granulation, using liq. granulating auxiliaries, takes place in the presence of >=5 (10-30) wt. %, w.r.t. total mixt. of condensed vitreous phosphates having formula Mn+2PnO3n+1 (II), (where M is alkali metal and n >3). Granulation is pref. continuous, e.g. in mixer-granulators. (III) may be crystallisable Na5P3O10 and/or Na4P2O7. (II) may be Na metaphosphate, -tetrapolyphosphate and (I), (where n = 10 to 50). The granulates can replace phosphate builders in detergents, cleansing, bleaching and dyeing compsns. (I) can be mixed, during or after granulation, with further alkali polyphosphates, (III) to form exclusively inorganic water-softeners. The addn. of (II) yields free-flowing, compression-resistant granules which mix well with other components. Dust-formation is prevented.
