The ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus using echo signals to obtain a display on the screen of a CRT, uses a parabolic reflector. The echo signals are converted into digital signals using an analogue to digital converter. These are entered into a memory sequentially as a series of pulses with a selective access. These are scanned line by line and entered into a shift register. The output is entered into a further D/A converter for transformation back to analogue signals. The digital memory consists of two sections for the two halves of the display picture. The final D/A converter is preceded by a buffer memory to linearise the signals.
