The throttle butterfly valve has a housing in two halves screwed together by their flanges and with unions welded to the flanges. There are semi-cylindrical recesses at right angles to the flow direction in the mating faces forming bearings for the valve spindle. A sealing ring for the spindle also forms the valve seat, being accommodated in an undercut recess in the housing round the bore. The flanges are sheet-metal stampings, each comprising an annular portion containing the spindle recesses and a portion for welding to the union. One or both of them have a portion outwards at right angles from the outer edge near the spindle recesses, forming part of a locking mechanism for a handle.
