<p>A stranding machine, Figure 1, consisting of spaced apart support stands 1 in which are rotatably mounted rotors 2 provided with frusto-conical guide members 4, the rotors 2 being drivingly connected to a drive shaft 9, cradles 6 being supported between the stands 1 for supporting bobbins 18 containing the strand material 11, said strands 11 being guided by guide members 4 to follow a sinusoidal path to the stranding die 19, each of the guide members 4 being provided with gripping devices 12, 13 arranged one behind the other and with channels along which the material 11 passes prior to passing in a free flight curve to the next adjacent member 4, the gripping devices 12, 13, Figure 2, having spaced apart limbs between which the material 11 passes during normal operation and a gripping portion in which the limbs are close together for gripping the material 11 if the material 11 breaks during operation of the machine, the drive shaft 9 being protected from a rotating broken strand by a deflector plate 16. <IMAGE></p> |
