Transparent reproduction materials for the prepn. of diazo printing plates in which the support is coated with a varnish to which is then applied the diazo coating. The varnish comprises partially hydrolysed polyvinyl acetate contg. hardening agents which catalyse the partial cross-linking of the polyvinyl alcohol grps. These materials gave excellent products free from the inconveniences of the usual processes. Paper or plastic as support. The varnish is applied as a soln. in a mixt. of alcohol and water and the polyvinyl acetate has 13 to 27% wt. non-hydrolysed ester grps. Cross-linking additive can be formaldehyde, Cr chloride, Al or Cr stearyl chloride, boric acid etc. and the diazo sensitiser bath cont. 50% alcohol.
