Each braked wheel of a vehicle, such as an agricultural trailer, has a hydraulic jack connected to the brake plate. The piston rod of the jack operates the brake lever. The extension of the piston rod from the cylinder, when in the closed position, is adjustable. Adjustment of the piston rod position is made by a screw threaded rod (41) whose inner end bears on the inner end of the piston. A plug (49) is removed to give access to rod (41) for adjustment.
