The aim of the wind direction indicator is to be able to cruise as "close hauled" as possible with a sailing craft. The indicator is mounted on the mast of a sailing craft, and contains a tube (2) on which there are mounted two pointers (10, 11) enclosing an acute angle, and a further pointer (5) aligned in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the craft. A rotatable wind vane (17) is provided with a pointer mark (18). When sailing "close hauled", the sailing craft is steered such that the point mark (18) on the wind vane (17) coincides with one of the two pointers (10, 11). <IMAGE>
