The object of this method is to provide pads with rounded ends. The pad obtained may constitute a cleaning pad or a tampon. A continuous wick of cellulose or of cotton is formed, this wick is wound with a cover made of a thermoplastic material formed by extrusion, a lubricated surface is made between the wick and the cover, the covered wick is segmented. A ribbed piston (27, 29) integral with a rod (28) and of a diameter less than the internal diameter of the cover (25) is applied against the upper end of the pad (12). Actuated axially, it forces part (12a) of the pad (12) out of its cover (25); next, the piston (27) is set in rotation and drives the pad (12) in rotation via its rib (29). Steam is injected into the enclosure (21), passes through the channels (24) and lubricates the end of the rotating pad. Finally, the pad is expelled from its cover (25). <IMAGE>
