A heating system for a car includes a flow control valve between a primary and secondary flow circuit that is controlled by a temperature control stage. The primary cooling system for the engine consists of a radiator, water pump and fan. A secondary system for heating the interior of the vehicle has an heat exchanger, fan and pump. A regulator responds to temperature sensors to control the pump and the position of a changeover valve that permits connection of the two circuits. The system allows the residual heat in the engine to be utilised when the engine is switched off.
