The brake which is of use in vehicles of all types is operated by shoes pressing on the rotating part. There is spring actuated mechanical brake acting on the shoes and also a single pipe hydraulic system in opposition. The hydraulic circuit has actuators pressing on the solid part of the shoe and can be filled with and emptied of oil. There are control check valves in the circuit, to control the braking with the clutch engagement.
