The element comprises a flexible plastics film having thereon a bonding layer and a water-applied micro-porous resinous ink. The bonding layer comprises a self crosslinked cured water-insoluble acrylic polymer. It is sticky to the touch and insoluble in the water vehicle used to apply the ink layer. Used to mfr. carbon paper and ribbon contg. an oily ink within the pores of the resinous ink binder. The acrylic polymer gives good bonding and its insensitivity to the ink vehicle avoids curling and aids uniformity. The acrylic polymer is pref. applied from aq. dispersion at 0.025-0.1 mil and crosslinked by drying. The ink comprises a resinous binder, e.g. PVA, and an incompatible oil. It is applied as a continuous uniform layer but dries to a microporous structure contg. oil in the pores.
