The equipment to stack patterned fabric, so that the patterns lie exactly over each other, has two small lamps mounted above the slitted plate. The lamps can slide against each other so that the light cross falls on the fabric to match the required pattern marking points. The points of the needles lie under the plate supporting the fabric. A pedal and linkage provides a stepless lifting action to the needles to bring them to points on the fabric outside the pattern marking points. Above the fabric there are pressing arms with pressing surfaces and recesses to press the material against the projecting needles. The needles and the pressure arms are moved in succession and synchronously. The mechanism allows the fabrics to be stacked so that their patterns are correctly positioned, without exposing the operative to any hazard from the needles, and without damaging the pattern of the material.
