Continuous prodn. of sodium bi:sulphate - from sulphuric acid and sodium chloride with economical use of energy and reduced reactor corrosion

Continuous prodn. of Na bisulphate (I) from NaCl and concn. H2SO4 in a (I) melt is effected by dosing NaCl and H2SO4 into a stirred vessel partly filled with molten (I). The HCl formed is removed and the melt is withdrawn at the bottom, pref. in an amt. corresp. to the amt. of (I) formed. The melt passes to a heating vessel, heated with an immersed burner burning H2 or natural gas, then the melt and combustion gases pass to a stabilising vessel, from which the gases are removed at the top and the melt at the bottom, the melt being recycled to the stirred vessel. The dwell time of the melt in the stabilising vessel is >2 min, pref. >5 min, esp. >10 min. The use of energy is economical and the susceptibility of the reactor material to the (I) melt is reduced.
