The honing machine table (13) is provided with four support struts (19) over which a bridge plate (18) is mounted. A workpiece (16) is mounted to this bridge plate from underneath. In the case of a cylinder block it is attached with the same force as a cylinder head would at be attached to the block. The cylinder block is fixed to the bridge plate with the use of special bolts (20) which incorporate a torque limiting arrangement in the bolt head.
