On steel or sheet metal doors, or wooden doors with plywood facings and honeycomb core, the box-shaped intermediate housing is for off-centre accommodation of a lock case for a mortice dead lock with latch and bolt. In each of the sidewalls of the housing (1) there are two latch openings (5, 6) and two key or closing cylinder openings (7, 8) symmetrically to the housing horizontal centre plane. The housing exceeds the lock case in height so that it can accommodate a mortice lock for right or left hand fitting, in both positions turned in its sidewall plane, with correct positioning. This enables the mechanims to be used for a door hung either way, without any need for special positioning units.
