In hot printing using coloured foils, a foil is used as cliche on which the printing elements are reproduced with an IR-absorbing material. For printing, IR radiation is directed through the cliche foil and, at the same time, pressure is exerted on the lay-up or article to be printed, coloured foil and cliche foil, pref. between rollers. At least one of the rollers is heated to a temp. below the m.pt. of the coloured foil or one of the rollers has a mantle of IR-transparent material, IR radiation being passed through this mantle, pref. from a source inside the roller. The printing elements consist (partly) of metal, metal oxide, C or other IR absorbing materials.
|
