Semipermeable membranes based on acrylonitrile! copolymer - with maleimido:aryl aryl di:sulphimide; has high water permeability

Semipermeable membranes are based on copolymers from (I) 50-99 wt.% acrylonitrile, (II) 1-50% of >=1 monomer of formula (in which Ar is a naphthalene gp.; R1 and R2 are H; CH3, F or Cl; R3 and R4 are H, phenyl, 1-6C alkyl or hydroxyalkyl, Cl or F; X is H, Na, K or NH4,) and (III) 0-30 (0-15)% copolymerisable monomer (s). The membranes are used for reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration. They have better chemical and hydrolysis resistance than cellulose acetate membranes with reduced susceptibility to degradation by microorganisms. They have high water permeability and low separating limit of mol. wt. around 500.
