PURPOSE:To prepare an olefin polymer having high stereoregularity, by using a catalyst comprising a solid component, obtained through contact of a specific complexed tetravalent titanium compound solution with a magnesium halide, and an organoaluminum compound. CONSTITUTION:A tetravalent titanium compound, e.g. titanium tetrachloride, is brought into contact with an equimolar amount or more of a lower alkyl benzoate in a solvent, e.g. an aromatic or alicyclic hydrocarbon, and complexed to form a solution with a complex concentration of 0.05-100 m mole/l. A magnesium halide, preferably ground magnesium chloride or bromide, is added to the solution to support the complex, and the solution is separated to give a solid catalyst component. An alpha-olefin is polymerized in the presence of a catalyst comprising the solid component and an organoaluminum compound. |
