The circuit breaker has a lazy tongs type moving mechanism and a pair moving main contacts at the ends of the lazy tongs. In the high voltage line is incorporated countercontact. On one contact (3a) are separately mounted sprung advance contacts (7) in such manner that during switching-on they close before the main contacts, while during switching-off they break after the same. The advance contacts preferably consist of two straight, springy rods whose one end is secured to the moving main contacts. Their free ends are mounted in front of the main contacts in the make direction. Alternately the advance contacts are formed by two U-shaped rods in the same arrangement relative to the main contacts.
