An exposure control circuit is connected to receive the output signal from a focus detecting circuit so that, during the taking of a flash photograph, exposure time and/or shutter aperture is a function of the distance of the object to be photographed. As shown, the camera is automatically focussed by a system 13-24. When a flash exposure is made, a capacitor 4 charges via a photo-sensitive element 3 and a parallel resistor 7. When the capacitor voltage equals a reference voltage derived from the system 13-24, an electromagnet closes a shutter-diaphragm (not shown).
