Dichloroacetyl chloride (I) was prepd. by rearrangement of trichloroethylene oxide (II) by use of a new catalyst which was selected from the primary alkylamide and secondary alkylamide. Thus, II was treated with O2 containing gas in the presence of catalytic amts. of Cl or Br to give I and II. The mixt. was rearranged by treating catalytic amts. of the above selected amide.
