PREPARATION OF COENZYME Q8

PURPOSE:To prepare coenzyme Q9 useful as a pancreatic function excitant, and remedies for bulvospinal paralysis, alveolar ectasia, apliastic anemia, alopecia areta, etc., by culturing bacteria belonging to Hyphomicrobium genus. CONSTITUTION:Coenzyme Q9-producing bacteria belonging to Hyphomicrobium genus, e.g. Hyphomicrobium variabile NCIB 10517, are cultured in a medium containing a carbon source such as mannitol, acetic acid, methanol, etc., a nitrogen source such as ammonium sulfate, etc., an inorganic salt, and micro nutrients, pref. in the presence of >= 0.5 ppm of dissolved oxygen, at 20-45 deg.C, pref. 25-30 deg.C and pH5-10, pref. 6-7.5. The coenzyme Q9 is extracted from the cells separated from the cultured product.
