PREPARATION OF COENZYME Q8

PURPOSE:To prepare coenzymer Q8 useful as a pancreatic function excitant, and remedies for bulvospinal paralysis, alveolar ectasia, aplastic anemia, etc., by culturing yeasts belonging to Hansenula genus in a medium containing methanol, ethanol, acetic acid, etc. as carbon sources. CONSTITUTION:Yeasts belonging to Hansenula, Pichia or Torulopsis genus, assimilable of methanol, ethanol, acetic acid, etc., and capable of producing coenzyme Q8, e.g. Hansenula capsulate IFO-0974, Pichia aganobii Y-1023 (FERM-P No.2430), Torulopsis molischiana CBS-136, etc., are cultured in a medium containing methanol, ethanol (pref. <= 3 wt.%) or acetic acid (pref.<=0.3 wt%) at 25-45 deg.C, pref. 28-32 deg.C and pH2-7, pref. 3-5. The coenzyme Q8 is extracted from the cells separated from the cultured product.
