The medical massage device has a box shaped housing (12) with a carrying handle (71) on top, containing a drive unit with an electric motor which has a rotary coupling (16) mounted on its output shaft for rotating a flexible cable (20). The cable drives an eccentric weight inside the massage head (28). Around the casing of the head is groove to form a finger grip. Alternatively the head may be secured by this groove inside a pocket incorporated in a belt which fits around the waist of the patient. The coupling enables the flexible cable to be easily released from the drive motor and/or the head. A front cover over the message head can be removed for access to the eccentric weight inside.
