Fragile crushable prod., such as bean sprouts for an egg roll, are sepd. from their intertwined state on a vibrating bed and then fed in a vertical direction by means of a rotating roller with protruding pins. The length of the pins is such that the prod. cannot be damaged by them but is also long enough to ensure that a feed occurs. The length of the pins pref. equals the dia. of the vegetable prod. and the same distance is used for the clearance between the pins and the end of the vibrating bed. The axis of the roller is also pref. slightly above the conveying surface of the vibrating bed. The pints on the roller enable the prod. to be drawn from the vibrating bed at a controlled rate with a min. of damage.
