In a dynamo-electric generator 100 comprising cascaded first and second stages having respectively a D.C. energized stationary excitation winding 127 and a rotating multiphase output winding 126, and a rotating multiphase excitation winding 131 and a stationary multiphase output winding 132, the output frequency of the second stage is rendered double that of the first stage by coupling the rotating windings 126, 131 together in a reversed phase rotation by means of a plurality of rotating conducting rings 135 ... 138 interposed between the latter windings. The outer ends of the windings 126, 131 are interconnected by soldering or brazing to respective conducting rings 133, 134, the output from the winding 132 may, if desired, be fed through rectifiers 1 and 8 and a filtering condenser 145 and centre-tapped inductance 144, and in the embodiment shown the winding 127 is supplied by the winding 119 of another generator whose stator is excited by a rotary permanent magnet 116 mounted on an overhang of the hollow shaft 103 which carries the two windings 126, 131. Drive is conveyed to the hollow shaft by a torsional shaft 109, splined coupling 107, 108 and a vibration damper 111, but in another embodiment there may be no bearings in the generator, the rotor being borne by the prime mover which drives it. |
