<p>PURPOSE:To detect the conveying direction of an image supporting sheet by detecting the quantity of light in the direction perpendicular to the conveying direction of the image supporting sheet with a multipoint detecting element. CONSTITUTION:An image supporting sheet 19 being fixed and conveyed along a guide plate 17 is radiated by the light source light through the slit 20 provided at a right angle to the conveying direction of the sheet 10 to a guide plate 17 and the radiated light is cut off by the sheet 19, thus producing bright and dark parts at both side edge parts of the sheet 19 at the passing of the slit 20. The quantity of light corresponding to the brightness and darkness is then detected with a multipoint detecting element 23. When this detection signal is digitally processed and is subjected to comparison with a reference bit and other processings, the conveying direction of the sheet 19 is detected, thus the correction of the sheet conveying direction, the classification of defective sheets, etc. may be accomplished.</p> |
