Prefabricated reinforcement cage for concrete beam - is of U=section with stirrups of continuous undulating bar which main bars are spot welded

The prefabricated steel reinforcement cage is for use in reinforced concrete beams. The cage provides the shear reinforcement in the form of interconnected transverse 'U' shaped stirrups (8), and the main flexural reinforcement in the form of longitudinal bars (5, 6, 7) fixed to the stirrups (8) in the upper and bottom zones. The stirrup reinforcement is fabricated from a continuous bar. The bar is originally bent to a monoplanar rectangular undulating profile, and the main bars (5, 6, 7) are fixed by spot-welding. The mesh is then bent along two longitudinal lines to derive the required 'U' section. The pitch of the undulations may be varied to suit the strength requirements of the finished beam, and the upper (6, 7) and lower (5) main bars may be fixed externally and internally respectively.
