Vehicle gearbox selector ring - is double ring with double tapered part locking onto taper of second part against pinion

The synchronising ring for a vehicle gearbox is positioned between a selector ring (8) and a gear pinion (33) is made in two parts (21, 24). The part (24) nearest the pinion has a cross section with a hooked part housed in a recess (21) in the face of the pinion. This part has sloping inside face which can be locked by friction onto a sloping face of a double conical ring (21) forming the second part. The first part (24) has a flange around it, with a vertical face which is forced against a vertical face on the end of the pinion. The second part has bosses (25) which fit into recesses in the boss (2) of the selector ring (8) with a large clearance (9).
