摘要 Lubricants and hydraulic fluids comprise polyesters containing the repeating unit <FORM:1023387/C4-C5/1> where R and R1 are aliphatic, aromatic or arylaliphatic hydrocarbon radicals, R11 is an organic radical and X, if present, is sulphur. R groups specified are Me, Et, n-Pr, i-Pr, Ph, tolyl, naphthyl and benzyl. R1 groups specified are methylene, ethylene and propylene. R11 groups specified are tetramethylene, vinylidene, phenylene and octamethylene.ALSO:Polyesters are prepared by reacting a dicarboxylic acid or an ester, anhydride or chloride thereof with a diol of formula <FORM:1023387/C3/1> where R is monofunctional, R1 is a difunctional aliphatic, aromatic or arylaliphatic hydrocarbon radical and the phosphorus atom may optionally be double-bonded to sulphur. The diols may be prepared by treating a phosphine with formaldehyde, an alkylene oxide, e.g. ethylene oxide or an olefin alcohol, e.g. allyl alcohol and optionally adding sulphur to the product. R may be Me, Et, Pr, Pri Ph, tolyl, naphthyl or benzyl, R1 may be methylene, ethylene or propylene. The phosphorus containing diol may be mixed with other diols. Acids specified are: adipic, sebacic, maleic, fumaric and ortho- and terephthalic. If the product contains unsaturated acid residues it may be copolymerized with styrene. If it is derived from an excess of diol it may be further polymerized by a reaction with a diisocyanate. Uses specified are: hydraulic oils, lubricants, impregnating agents and thermoplastics. The products may be flame resistant. In Examples (1-4) the following compounds were polycondensed in chloroform; (1) Phthalyl dichloride and phenyl dimethylol phosphine, (2) terephthalyl dichloride and phenyl dimethylol phosphine sulphide, (3) adipyl dichloride and hexyl dimethylol phosphine, and (4) terephthalyl dichloride and hexyl dipropylol phosphine. In Examples (5-6) the following compounds were interacted in xylol: (5) dimethyl maleate phenyl dipropylol phosphine and aluminium ethylate as catalyst, (6) phthalic anhydride, hexyl dimethylol phosphine and p toluol sulphonic acid.
