<p>The outside of the tyre is fitted with a pattern of grip links in a recess groove, with each link hinged on the tyre fitting with one end and with the other end linked to the end of a radial servo drive set through the tyre and to a hub fitting. As the servo drives are extended the grip links are set proud of the tyre to grip the road. The tyre can be used on normal roads, with the grips retracted so as not to damage the road surface. A central cam around the hub operates on all the servo drives to push outwards and raise the links, with the operation controlled by a dashboard switch.</p> |
