Gel-forming flufenamic acid salts with organic bases - with good water solubility and cutaneous resorption

The water solubility and cutaneous resorption of Flufenamic acid (2-(3-trifluoromethylanilino)benzoic acid) (I) can be improved by using salts of (I) with organic bases in formulations for cutaneous application. The salts have high water solubility and e.g. te diethylamine salt of (I) in concs. of over 10% in water will be in gel form and can be used as such for cutaneous application. Suitable bases are diethylamine and triethanolamine. The salts are worked into a hydrogel or emulsion, but in the case of the diethylamine salt, no additional hydrogel former need be added to give a spreadable paste.
