The motor vehicle is driven by an i.c. engine (1) which at least partly runs on hydrogen and converts braking energy into useful energy for driving the vehicle. The brake energy is converted by a generator (5), particularly by d.c. generator, which is connected to a unit (8) in which hydrogen is produced from water by electrolysis. The generator serves at the same time as a starter and as a source of electric power for other purposes. During braking, the generator is pref. driven from the transmission chain of the vehicle whilst the engine is in neutral. The generator is pref. arranged immediately behind the engine.
|
