The gearbox for a motor cycle or other light vehicle has a sliding selector fork and with two parallel shafts forming a drive shaft and drive shaft carrying sliding sleeves. Each sleeve carries sets of gear pinions carrying inner selector teeth operated by the same fork. The highest ratio is obtained when selected pinions have their selector teeth interlocked. These selector teeth have sloping sides which increase in the relevant direction of rotation. The selector fork is U shaped and has prongs which engage the sliding parts each side of the two shafts.
