An electric through-flow heater for hot water installations consits of a pipe heating element bent into a circular or 'U' shape within its heated area, there is a through-flow pipe having a good heat conducting connection with the heating element through soldering or welding, and a heat conducting and mounting plate (4) which has a good heat conducting connection both with the heated section of the pipe heating element (1) as well as with a heat control device (5). The heat conducting and mounting plate (4), the base of which is soldered or welded to the pipe heating element (1) is pressed with its outer edge on to the lower surface of the heat holding plate (9) through a tensioning screw (10) or by being soldered or welded on.
