A sliding door assembly constrains the door to slide in a single plane parallel to the plane of a door frame. Flanges 6, 7 outstanding from jambs of the door frame engage a leading edge and a flanged trailing edge of the door as the door closes, and a flange 8 outstanding from a lintel of the door frame engages a flanged top edge of the door as the door moves into its closed position. This latter engagement is achieved by shaping the sliding door track with recesses 18 so that the last stage of door closure is accompanied by a small component of vertical movement of the door. Seals 12, 13, 14 on the door or flanges and seal 15 at the bottom of the door provide acoustic or fire resistant properties. <IMAGE>
