Phosphorus-containing condensation products, their production and their use as flame retardants

Process for producing a water-soluble phosphorus-containing condensation product having a molar ratio P-CH2-P linkage/P-CH2OCH2-P linkage of 0.8-4.0 by heating a tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium compound under reduced pressure and acid conditions to condense it by dehydration and deformaldehydation reaction. This condensation product can be used for rendering textile articles flame retardant.
