Aqueous solutions of partial esters of polybasic organic acids and steroid alcohols, particularly cholesterol, prednisone, prednisolone, cortisone, hydrocortisone and hexamethasone, are stabilized by the addition of ethylenediaminetetracetic acid and/or khellin-carboxylic acid, and an alkanolamine, e.g. monoethanolamine, which is present in amount which gives the solution a pH of 7 to 8. The polybasic acid components of the esters include di- and tricarboxylic acids, such as maleic, fumaric, succinic, adipic, malic and citric acids, and acids containing one or more phosphonic or sulphonic acid groups, e.g. m-sulphobenzoic acid.ALSO:Stable aqueous solutions of steroid esters suitable for use against ageing, arteriosclerosis and vaso-dilations comprise a partial ester of a polybaric organic acid and a steroid alcohol, an alkanolamine, e.g. monoethanolamine, and a stabilizer selected from ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid and khellin-carboxylic acid, the alkanol-amine being present in an amount which gives the solution a pH of 7 to 8. Steroids specified are cholesterol, prednisone, prednisolone, cortisone, hydrocortisone, and dexamethasone. Poly basic acids include di- and tri-carboxylic acids, such as maleic, fumaric, succinic, adipic, malic and citric acids, and acids containing one or more phosphonic or sulphonic acid groups, e.g. m-sulphobenzoic acid. |
