PURPOSE:To ensure the cooling performance of the engine under a heavy operational service, by means of selectively making an engagement, between a clutch at the cooling fan side and a clutch made in one unit with the water pump shaft, in a method of using a heat sensing expansion material arranged in a cooling water passage. CONSTITUTION:The rotation of a fan pulley 10 is transferred to the cooling fan through a fluid coupling 20. With a thermal load growing up in an operation for the engine and the cooling temperature rising up to about 100 deg.C, a rod 80 is made moving rightward against the tension of a spring 82 by a cooling water temperature sensing thermowax 90. And a cup material 64, being axial-way movably engaged by a key with a hole 66 of a coupling drive shaft 22, is pushed to raise a revolution of a separator plate 42, made in one unit with the cooling fan on the fluid coupling 20, by repeatedly making an engagement and disengagement between a ball 74 and a groove 76. With a temperature of the cooling water further rising up, an engagement of a clutch 62 and 69 is made for the separator plate 42 and the cup material 64, thus with the fan pulley 10 directly coupled to the separator plate 42, that is, the cooling fan. |
