PURPOSE:To obtain excellent picture signal with improved blooming phenomenon against wholly strong light input and reduce the cost by properly discharging excessive electric charges and unnecessary electric charges into a drain. CONSTITUTION:When shift electrode 3 is set on at time t1, the signal charge accumulated in phtotsensitive part 1 is transferred to register 2 and, then , read in the proper order from 0. For the period of time t2 until the electric charge is read out, the electric charge exceeding the amount of saturation charge in phtotsensitive part 1 emits light by strong incident light, but when the electric charge accumulated in photodiodes 1a---1e exceeds a certain level, the over charge will flow to drain 4. At time t3, the reset pulse is applied to overflow gate electrode 5 and, consequently, the electric charge accumulated in photosensitive part 1 until time t3 is transferred to drain 4 and discharged. After time t4, the electric charge is accumulated in phtotsensitive part 1 again. At time t5, the shift pulse is applied, the electric charge accumulated in photosensitive part 1 from time t4 to time t5 is transferred to register 2 and read out. Hereafter, the same function is repeated. |
