Wind intensity and direction measurement on sailing boat - employing dynamometric gauge for wind force, with pitot tubes sensing direction

The sailing of boats driven from wind effects is improved by accurate determination of intensity and orientation of wind force applied to the boat. Air pressure on one surface of the sail is also determined. Mast (1) of the sailing boat is mounted on a carriage (2) which slides on shafts (3) fixed to the deck (4) by supports (5) and parallel to boat axis. Rollers located between shafts and carriage bore holes reduce frictional errors. A dynamometer gauge (6) is attached to a support (7) on the deck and is connected (8) to an indicator (9) on a panel (10) to display applied force. Relative direction of wind is sensed by Pitot tubes mounted remote from the sails.
