The stirring tool is fixed to a tube whose upper end passes beyond the level of the vat contents to be connected to the drive shaft. An inner tube is fitted concentrically around the shaft so as to leave clearance between the shaft and the tube and between the latter and the above drive shaft tube. The upper end of the inner tube has a clearance from the upper end of the outer tube and is above the free surface of the vat content. A seal is made between the bottom of the inner tube and the bottom of the vat. The outer tube stops short of the bottom of the vat.
