PURPOSE:To improve magnetic characteristics and resistance to deterioration by reaction by using films which are the periodic structure deposited continuously with a magnetic alloy layer consisting of rare earth elements and transition metal elements and nonmagnetic material layer consisting of metals, semiconductors or dielectrics as a magneto-optical recording layer. CONSTITUTION:The magneto-optical recording layer has the periodic structure deposited continuously with the magnetic alloy layer of the rare earth-transition metal element system (layer A) and the nonmagnetic material layer consisting of the metals, semiconductors or dielectrics (layer B). The rare earth elements constituting the magneto-optical recording layer of the rare earth-transition metal element system are exemplified by Tb, Gd, etc., and the transition metal elements are exemplified by Fe, Co, Ni, etc. The magnetic alloy layer (layer A) is formed of respectively >=1 kinds of the elements selected from the elements of these two groups. The nonmagnetic material layer B is the protective film consisting of the nonmagnetic materials such as metals, semiconductors and dielectrics. The preferable materials are exemplified by Si, Si3N4, Al2O3, etc. The deterioration of the recording layer by the reaction thereof is prevented and the good magneto-optical characteristics are obtd. in this way. |
