The carcases of slaughtered pigs are split lengthways into sides by an axe with a cutting edge and a section provided with a handle. The axe with its roughly horizontally-aligned cutting edge is arranged below the barrel of a hammer cylinder fed for pref. by a compressed air line. A handle is provided with a trigger and the hammer may be supported by a counterweight and a cable on pulleys above the conveyor. Manipulating levers extend near enough horizontally and parallel to the cutting edge of the axe. Method overcomes the problem that the ideal method of splitting the sides of the carcase accurately, is either wage intensive or required highly expensive plant. The cheaper method of the splitting saw reduces the quality of the product.
|
