<p>PURPOSE:To extract a feature variable rationally reflecting the feature of a shape by dividing the contour part of a character image, redividing respective divided parts, integrating respective redivided parts by a prescribed integrating rule and extracting the feature variable of the contour part of the character image as a character recognizing feature variable in each integrated part. CONSTITUTION:The contour part of a character image is divided by a vertical or horizontal dividing line and respective divided parts are redivided. Respective redivided parts are integrated by the prescribed integrating rule and the feature variable of the contour part of the character image is extracted as a character recognizing feature variable in each integrated part. At the time of redividing, the modification part e.g. of the character may be divided into two parts and the feature of the shape may be dispersed. When the integrating rule is determined so that the redivided parts of the portions including the modification parts such as respective corner parts of the character image are integrated, the shape features of four corners of the character can be collected to one integrating part so as to prevent the shape features of the four corners from being dispersed. Consequently, feature variables rationally reflecting the modification of the like of a character can be stably extracted.</p> |
