Electrostatic precipitator discharge strip - has zigzag shape and has to be stretched when installed for use

The relevant feature of the discharge strip for electric precipitator systems is that the strip elements have a shape which allows fitting in a tensioned swingable condition without the use of additional tensioning springs. The strip is of a band material shaped in zig zag in such a way that the inital overall length is less than the distance between the points of fitting. For use the strip is fastened in a eyelet at the top of the precipitator structure and after stretching the other end is hooked in a similar eyelet (5) at the bottom of the structure and secured by wedge (6). In this condition the strip keeps taut and is easily demountable. The elongation of the strip amounts to (5) to (2)%. The angles enclosed by the elements of the zig zag shape are equal and are in the region of 50 to 100 deg.
